Chennai Metro Water floated tenders to replace ageing sewer pipelines, refurbish pumping stations and add odour control across the Adyar, Teynampet and Kodambakkam zones, funded under the ADB-supported Chennai Climate Resilient Water Security and Sewerage Project.

₹266 crore underground sewer network cleared for Okkiyam Thoraipakkam
Metro Water received Coastal Regulation Zone clearance to build 84 km of underground sewage lines with six pumping stations and three lifting stations in Okkiyam Thoraipakkam, benefiting more than 14,000 households.
Why it matters for buyers: Households moving off septic tanks onto a public sewer need new internal drainage, traps and chamber work — a steady source of plumbing material demand.
Chennai Metro Phase 2 crosses 54% physical progress
The 118.9 km, ₹63,246 crore Chennai Metro Phase 2 project reached 54.62% physical progress across Corridor 3 (Madhavaram–SIPCOT), Corridor 4 (Lighthouse–Poonamallee Bypass) and Corridor 5 (Madhavaram–Sholinganallur), with around 42 km underground.
Why it matters for buyers: Metro corridors bring station-area utility diversions and depot works, and they pull residential and commercial construction along the alignment.
₹41 crore drain from Otteri Nullah to the Cooum along Jawaharlal Nehru Salai
Announced in the Tamil Nadu budget session for the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, the drain is intended to reduce flooding in Villivakkam, Ambattur, Korattur, Padi and Anna Nagar West. A 31 MLD sewage treatment plant at Tiruvottiyur is to be upgraded at ₹42 crore.
Why it matters for buyers: West and north-west Chennai flood mitigation keeps drainage pipe, chamber and cover demand high through the pre-monsoon months.
The Greater Chennai Corporation is building a 4,235 m stormwater drain along Old Mahabalipuram Road and TNHB Main Road, linking the Semmancheri–Arasankazhani canal to the Buckingham Canal, funded by KfW.

Desilting drive across 1,671.6 km of stormwater drains
GCC reported desilting completed along 493.83 km of its 1,671.6 km drain network as of 28 August 2026, covering 8,252 roads across 101 packages, with ₹100 crore allocated for monsoon preparedness.
Why it matters for buyers: Desilting exposes failed sections and missing covers, which is when replacement chambers, covers and short pipe runs are bought at short notice.
